SOUND CHECK: ZiGGi Recado (NETHERLANDS / ST. EUSTATIUS )
Growing up in St. Eustatius, Ziggi Recado was always surrounded by reggae and dancehall music. In this small Caribbean island it was also common to hear soca and calypso on the airwaves. These sounds are all represented in his music, as well as the American influence of hip hop and r&b.
The Roots
Somewhere in St. Eustatius, a small, saddle-shaped Dutch island in the West Indies, between the dormant Quill volcano and other small mountains, a young Ricardo Biljden was being raised by his grandparents. After having coined his nickname, Ziggi, from his grandparents, Recado moved to the Netherlands to study in 1999. In 2002, with the influence of his friends, he ventured into the music world. A short two years later he was already signed to his first label, Rock(N)Vibes. His first studio album, So Much Reasons, not only gained him national fame in the Netherlands, but also several awards. In Transit, his second studio album, produced with VP/Greensleeves records, gave him greater European exposure, and the leverage to perform at many concerts. By 2011 he released his third studio album with VP records, the self-titled Ziggi Recado. This album was a great achievement for him because he released a new style of music and personally produced a majority of the album. Having released several independent EPs, he worked on the full length album, Therapeutic, which came out in 2014 with a 13-track masterpiece released by Zion High Productions. This was followed up by EP, Ivan The Terrible, a blend of reggae, dancehall and roots which Recado is known for.
