SOUND CHECK: Jahneration (FRANCE)
Jahneration signals a different kind of influence in their music. They established a slogan for themselves: “Diversity, Unity, and Sharing of Music.” These values, clearly manifested in their message led them to create the music that now fuels them.
The Roots
Jahneration, the French reggae duo that originated in 2009, has been honing their craft since their early days. Comprised of Parisian song jays Theo and Ogach, the group has been carving out a name for themselves in the Hip Hop and Reggae corners.
The duo has released several YouTube videos of themselves performing. As their online presence developed, so did their fan base. Being active on social media and other online networks shot the duo up to stardom very quickly. Their 2013 EP titled “Foreword” gave them extra exposure and allowed them to grow musically.
Their work on compilation albums gave them an inside track on gaining new fans. With a number of cameos in the bag, one of which was with fellow French reggae star, Naâman, allowed the duo the chance to learn from other professionals in the industry.
Their debut self-titled album “Jahneration” was a big success since its 2015 release. Their sound, now much more evolved, with dubstep and electronic beats added to some, while others still offered a much more old school, roots/reggae feel. Through this album, Jahneration was able to stake out a sound unique to them.
The Musical Influence
Obviously influenced by the greats, Jahneration signals a different kind of influence in their music. They established a slogan for themselves: “Diversity, Unity, and Sharing of Music.” These values, clearly manifested in their message led them to create the music that now fuels them.
The Sound
Their single “Deh Ya,” off of their Jahneration album portrays their evolution. They added dubstep and EDM paired with reggae vibes and smooth vocals. The music video, released earlier in 2016 features this blending of sounds.
“No Want” tells of the need to keep pushing forward, no matter the circumstances. The song calls youth to keep fighting, to not let anyone bring you down, and to keep shining:
“Them wanna bring us down without a warning
But we keep holding on
My youth just carry on your fight
Keep on shining on your light yeah”
